Isobornyl (Meth)acrylate, referred to as IBO(M)A, (LIFTCHEM’s Limo IBOA and Limo IBOMA), has attracted people's attention in recent years as a functional acrylic monomer due to its special structure and properties. IBO(M)A has a double bond of acrylic ester and a special isobornyl alkoxy group, which enables it to form a polymer with excellent performance through free radical polymerization with many other monomers and resins, which can effectively reduce the viscosity of the system, which is suitable for high solid content coating systems, reduce VOC emissions, and improve the adhesion, shrinkage, impact resistance and other characteristics of the coating. It can meet the increasingly strict technical and environmental requirements of modern materials. It has a good application prospect in automotive coatings, high solid coatings, UV curing coatings, optical fiber coatings, modified powder coatings and so on.

IBO(M)A is an active diluent with low volatility, low toxicity and irritation, which is conducive to improving the production and construction environment of coatings. At the same time, IBO(M)A has lower volume shrinkage compared with other multifunctional monomers. Due to the formation of network cross-linking after photocuring of multi-functional monomers, the molecular cross-linking density is large, and the cross-linking points are many, which limits the activities of chain segments, and the relative position and distance between the molecules and the molecules are suddenly shortened, resulting in the relative internal stress and volume shrinkage rate with the substrate. Due to the volume effect of the side group, IBO(M)A weakens the interchain force, so it has much smaller relative stress and volume shrinkage than other monomers of monomers such as THFA and 2-PEA.

IBOMA is an excellent monomer that combines hardness and flexibility due to its methyl and ring structure and high Tg point, giving polymers outstanding gloss, abrasion resistance and weather resistance. In addition, in powder coatings, IBO(M)A's copolymers can improve the caking properties of the powder and improve the storage stability of the coating. In addition, due to its low viscosity in melting state, the leveling property of the coating is improved, and the appearance and gloss of the coating film are improved.
